Diorama

In a shoebox,
a prince paid for you
to set sand in a little 'scape
with dinosaurs and plastic palm trees.

Crushed glass in dixie cups line a tray-
The hypocrisy so thick you are
trammeled to the task
of sorting seeds of dismay.

While summer showers
warm, milky-gray
push root and sprout-
the foliage towers over,

obscuring the picnic tables
on the dunes
overlooking the swingset and wading pool,
filling with rain
